Suggestion: Removal of WP

Addons Needed (workshop link): N/A

Reason:

Hello,

bit of a shocker here obviously. I'm here making a suggestion regarding the Wolfpack Company regiment from the server. It has come to the attention of the generals, as well as the attention of admiralty and after a discussion with RSB we believe this is the best choice to make in regards to WP.

We've informed all WP seniors about this and appropriate steps have been taken through RSB as well.

Here are a few reasons why the removal of Wolfpack Company may be beneficial for the server:

  • Reg overlaps with too many things, and doesn't have anything unique beyond jetpacks (Scouting can go to GC, negotiations back to CG, hostage rescue back to CC)
  • Events become easier to set up as there's no Jetpacks for event skipping and finding EEs will be easier
  • Everything GC can do WP do better.
  • Jetpacks are impossible to balance. Events flow is easier to manage.
  • WP removed means GC gains more benefits of the Recon aspect of GC! making them have less time to stand around giving them more things to do which they have been complaining about.
  • Regiment is unstable in player counts and is constantly dying and being revived, despite General’s intervention
  • With this regiment being removed it will allow other regiments to get more players.
  • Most feel as if their equipment is unfair and makes others feel like they need a buff
  • The Bounty Hunter job has the jetpack so people can still play with it.

(Full transfers will be facilitated by the generals and all IC permissions will be handled.)

This seems a little drastic. It's true that the reg has a lot of overlap, but I always thought the most sensible role for 104th was not scouting and such but instead QRF. This way they don't completely outclass GC at scouting, but can be called to anywhere they're needed quickly to provide support. Is it not worth trying that first? I've heard on occasions that this isn't a role 104th is given because it takes away from CC, which I think is a bit silly. CC has spec ops, and also have a commando suited to just about every role available, so should realistically have more than enough to do.

104th is one of the cooler regiments on the server imo, so it would be a shame to see it go.

as someone who used to be an event team member back in however so long ago it's been. I can vouch, cannot explain how many times i had to frustratedly put a squad of droids somewhere to stop 104th from BLOWING through the event with ease. Jetpacks are 100% impossible to balance, having a regiment full of them is AIDS. If you are an EE you HATE fighting wolf pack aswell, they have strong weapons, high manoeuvrability etc. Though that is echoing your own point.

all in all even though I haven't been on the server in almost a full year. i wholeheartedly think this is for the betterment of everyone.

regardless of you're opinion on the topic here, Cobala said nothing other than pure facts, and I approve this message.

Any attempt to fight this is pointless. I know I could fix it. Every regiment have ups and downs and I had already bagan putting in place changes to fix it with no attempt for time to be given to see if it would work. Any issues with the JP can be fixed by putting strict rules into place for its use.

I don't know what to say other than I tried my best but was given no opportunity to fix anything.

as a person who's played 104th/WP most of my time on MVG has been fun being a part of a role that was created to make sure that other regiments are not as op compared to others, but like locho said as soon as we were told that WP are going to be removed. there was no point in us trying to fix it

Come on guys he just needs another 300 days!

The event skipping and jetpack complaints aren't super solid imo. Any regiment with a Ghook and Jedi especially can also event skip pretty easily. Is it not just a matter of proper regulation? Everyone knows what event skipping is, so maybe punish it properly - or communicate with WP seniors to ensure that WP are getting properly led by their LT team during events and know where not to go. EEs being upset about the Jetpack being OP is what it is, but i'm sure they're still going to get plenty of kills for their Gmod KD either way :)

And if other regiments think the jetpacks are a bit too strong as well, does it really matter? We're all on the same side, fighting against the same enemies - and it's not like everyone is flocking to 104th because it's OP either, so ?

This is being posted only to make it official, the regiment is essentially already gone. Right after getting back to LT and taking some steps to improve both activity and even more reg performance, I was just told to stop as it's happening. There is almost zero point commenting further other than generals just seeing that maybe some people liked the regiment, a shocker.

Had to make a forums account to say "what the fuck"? This seems like the lazy solution. If jetpacks truly cannot be balanced (which seems unlikely) then nerf the weapons to compensate. EEs can be given jetpacks if you need. Why remove a regiment which plenty of people enjoy instead of trying to fix it?

Just make WP a small airborne squad rather than a whole regiment with 8 different roles.
Turn WP into a spec?? With the same rank equivalences as the Medics and ARC???

WP has always been a problem, its just so tough to deal with jetpacks overall. In the end, less drastic measures could have been taken like removing the jetpack but yeah its as dumb as it sounds. I already know people are gonna hold me at gun point for writing on here, but as one of the people that abused the Jetpack its true power could never be compared to a grappling hook or a Force Leap. Like yeah they can both event skip, anyone can do it if they try but WP has made it their main purpose to look way too far ahead and it was considered normal.

Yeah, would love to see them running around with a DC-17 or anything remotely close to that. That's how you make it balanced in combat if you didn't know, no matter how much you nerf their accuracy while mid air they will still be able to use their weapons and manoeuvre between enemies and shoot from time to time.

Your point about QRF, yeah that's already a donator perk and it would make them even stronger on base attacks as they will be able to pick their fights. Anyway they wouldn't be efficient at totally clearing NPC's but more or less be a support to RC and SDW who are already supporting the area controlled by another regiment (Like GM in AUX). Yes fast response time but in the end, their weapons are usually best for clearing EE's rather than a mass of NPC's.

Yeah overall, Wolfpack is a pain in the ass regardless of whos leading it. It's pretty much like the Ghook being made sweaty by ARC. Too many problems to fix and seeing as their role can EASILY be taken over by others like CG and RC it's a fair shout to get rid of it. Also yes very well aware RC won't have Jetpacks for hostage rescue so they will be slightly less efficient and moving them quickly, but even as squads they can secure hostages efficiently with their tools and slowly move them out safely.

Please keep any Death Threats targeted at me not in this post. I'm down to talk about in DM's even if you feel like I'm one of the dumbest ppl on the server :3

  1. Reg overlaps with too many things, and doesn't have anything unique beyond jetpacks (Scouting can go to GC, negotiations back to CG, hostage rescue back to CC)
  2. Events become easier to set up as there's no Jetpacks for event skipping and finding EEs will be easier
  3. Everything GC can do WP do better.
  4. Jetpacks are impossible to balance. Events flow is easier to manage.
  5. WP removed means GC gains more benefits of the Recon aspect of GC! making them have less time to stand around giving them more things to do which they have been complaining about.
  6. Regiment is unstable in player counts and is constantly dying and being revived, despite General’s intervention
  7. With this regiment being removed it will allow other regiments to get more players.
  8. Most feel as if their equipment is unfair and makes others feel like they need a buff
  9. The Bounty Hunter job has the jetpack so people can still play with it.

I'm going to echo some sentiments, because genuinely seems like the worst way of handling things.
  1. 3 things that are unique to WP are now going to regiments that will have... about 3 things unique to them as well or more. CG getting it back is like 5-6 years ago? And CC is now getting more things that overlap.
  2. Unless EE's are buffed, they will not become easier to find. Already EE Jet Trooper is one of the most common EE's. Also it's mostly a skill issue if they manage to get that far without any intervention. GM has done this the same way just by using ghooks.
  3. So adjust GC to be a bit better in the mobility regard? Also GC's rifle is decidedly better than Wolfpack's as that's what nearly instantly kills EE's on spawn.
  4. This can also be echoed for ghooks, all you need is one slingshot and someone can be across the map and over a wall you made. Also that's mad that it needs to be balanced on a mainly PVE RP server.
  5. So removing Wolfpack because GC didn't get every element of scouting, okay? This is just going to make scouting far slower, people have also made concessions to have the two regiments work together, and unless it's been secretive there's been no bad blood.
  6. Literally every regiment has this problem, this time Wolfpack was targeted when GM's numbers, Shadow's numbers, etc. were also inconsistent as high hell.
  7. That's such a lukewarm take, "If I reduce the amount of choices, I will get more people picking that one". Yeah, that's how a limited pool works, getting more people into other regiments could also have been done organically by just encouraging it through either some adjustments or just giving a duty or two to another regiment. It's actively harmful to provide less choices as well as axing one of the most prominent regiments in the Clone Wars as well as one of the most popular Commanders of it.
  8. It's a PVE server, I kill droids about as quickly as anyone else. I am mildly more vertical while doing so. The senior admin decided that the guns were to be buffed as well and it still made them usable. If it's about to become a tirade into how it's PVP then we need a different discussion.
  9. Yes, because everyone absolutely loves playing legacy jobs or reinforcements, they sure do love having no progression or anything to show for it, and only get their fun shooting while in the air with a jetpack. And all it took was losing the third most popular regiment in the Clone Wars.
If any of these points were brought up before, they would have been given fixes that would have made so much more sense, but instead all that's happened is you've fixed none of the problems and just shoved it off into other regiments and said "there's a donator job with it, so you can still use it".

Can we remove GM while we are at it? Could get rid of flamethrowers which are op just stunning all NPCs and give breaching to 501st so they finally have something to do again. :) :) :)

You may all flame me for this comment now.

Like yeah they can both event skip, anyone can do it if they try but WP has made it their main purpose to look way too far ahead and it was considered normal.
Stricter rules in WP were so, so, easy to implement. If you just spoke to the senior team you could have brought this up.

Yeah, would love to see them running around with a DC-17 or anything remotely close to that. That's how you make it balanced in combat if you didn't know, no matter how much you nerf their accuracy while mid air they will still be able to use their weapons and manoeuvre between enemies and shoot from time to time.
If you coordinate to get an EE with nearly any regiment it becomes good, jetpack or not. If you've seen people swarming an EE it will always die in seconds unless it's just CT's with nothing.

Your point about QRF, yeah that's already a donator perk and it would make them even stronger on base attacks as they will be able to pick their fights.
QRF was one of the better parts of it, seeing as if WP is doing QRF, GC has full range to scout, but that doesn't seem like something that was discussed before this.
